This trip is a great way to start your Gap Year adventure in Australia! Whether for a working holiday or just a trip around the country Melbourne Gap Year is the perfect introduction to the Aussie way of life.

To be able to work in Australia you need to be aged between 18 – 30 and be eligible for a Working Holiday Visa.
You should have a sense for adventure, be curious to learn about new cultures and like to experience something different.

If you are planning to work in Australia whilst you’re here you’ll need to apply for a Working Holiday Visa. Unfortunately, our visa inclusion package is only available for travellers who are heading to Sydney. If you’re heading to Melbourne, the application can be completed through your travel agent, or directly through the Australian Government website.

Please note: If you have a criminal record, you are still able to apply for a Working Holiday Visa, but due to the specific information required while filling out the application form we won’t be able to process your visa for you, and this must be applied individually.

This Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417) is available to passport holders who come from:

the Republic of Cyprus
Hong Kong SAR
the Republic of Ireland
the Republic of Korea
the Netherlands
United Kingdom

Or you’re a citizen of and hold a valid passport from one of these countries:

China, People’s Republic of
Czech Republic
San Marino
Slovak Republic
United States of America

People hold one of the above passports can still apply for a similar visa called the Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462). Grabatour Travel cannot apply for this visa for you, however once you obtain this visa it will allow you to participate in the Oz Gap Year programme.

To be eligible for a working holiday visa, applicants need to meet the following requirements:

Hold a passport issued by an eligible country or region
Be aged 18-30 (inclusive) at the time of applying
Not be accompanied by dependent children at any time during their stay in Australia
Meet health, character and financial requirements
Not have previously entered Australia on a Working Holiday visa (unless applying for a second visa)
Be outside Australia when they apply and when their visa is granted
Apply within 12 months of intended travel to Australia.
Have sufficient funds to cover your expected living/trip costs during your stay
Have funds for a return or onward ticket to depart Australia (or an actual ticket)
Have health insurance

How to apply:

You can choose our inclusive visa booking option and we can process the Working Holiday Visa application for you, or you may wish to apply for your own visa via Australian Immigration.

You will need to apply for Medicare once you are in Australia and in order to do this please ensure that you can provide TWO forms of ID e.g. passport, driving licence, birth certificate.

All visitors to Australia (excepting those from New Zealand) will require a visa or e-visa/ETA to enter. These must be applied for before departure, and if you’re planning on working in Australia whilst you’re out here you’ll need a Working Holiday Visa. If you are just heading to Australia for fun however, an ETA will suffice. Both visas can be applied for online. Please feel free to contact us if you need any more information.
Also, check out the general Australian visa requirement here.

Sure! We recommend searching and comparing flight prices using SpareStay.com.
Travel insurance is highly recommended for all of our trips in Australia. You can get this in the Insurance section of our site.

If your start date is more than 40 days away, you can secure your spot by paying a 10% deposit.
Simply select the ‘deposit’ option when you Check out. We’ll hold you a spot on your chosen start date and send you a link to pay the remaining amount.

The balance must be paid in full at least 40 days prior to your tour start date. If you are booking within 40 days of your start date the deposit option is not available so you need to pay in full.

Will I be part of a group?

Your guided portions of the 4 day trip can run pretty much every day of the week, so we take this opportunity to keep the numbers low for a more personal experience.

There can be up to 5 people in your walking tour group, or it could be just you and your guide exploring the city on your terms for the day.

Which parts of the trip are guided?

You will get a fully guided city walk complete with facts, great food tips and ideas for the rest of your time in Sydney. You also have your personal one-on-one session with your gap year consultant.

Will I be picked up from the airport?

You sure will! You will be taken via bus directly to the door of your hostel, what a service! We will give you specific instructions regarding your pickup closer to your departure date.guide for work and travel advice.

Is my itinerary fixed?

Due to the flexible nature of the 4-day package the order can sometimes differ, but we will always make sure it works for you. Once you’ve booked, we will send over your personalised itinerary so you know exactly what you’re doing.

Are there certain days the package can start?

You can fly in any day and we are able to collect you from the airport. We will then arrange your 4 days for you from there. You will get an email laying out your plans customised to you.

What happens at the end of my 4 days?

Whatever you want! We want you to feel as ready and relaxed about your next steps and that’s why we will go over all of your plans in your one-on-one session. Whether it’s more accommodation in Sydney, researching farmwork, planning the trip of a lifetime to some of Australia’s top destinations or looking for a bar job, we will have the answers.. You will also get a lifetime membership into our Travel Family, so even if you want more help after the one-on-one session, we will be here for you every step of the way.

How do I begin to get work in Australia?

We will help you with this, including CV assistance, tips and tricks for interviews and our special Employment Guide which has work contacts for various fields all over Australia. This will all be gone over during your one-on-one time.

Do I need a visa to come to Australia?

Yes you do! If you’re coming here just as a tourist to visit Australia, you’ll need a Visitor Visa.

If you’re coming here to work while you’re on holiday, you’ll need either a Working Holiday Visa (417) or a Work and Holiday Visa (462), depending on which country you’re from.

You can find more information and a list of the various visas HERE.

How do I apply for a visa?

We recommend organising this as soon as possible.

The application can be completed through your travel agent, or directly through the same Australian Government website as above.

We always recommend checking Australian Government website for any specific enquiries.

How much money would you recommend bringing to Australia?

According to the Australian Government, you need $5,000AUD in your bank account on arrival if you’re coming on a Working Holiday visa. This is a good savings target if you are wanting to either travel for a month or set yourself up for working and living in Australia after the Melbourne Arrival Package.

However, everybody is different and to give yourself the best chance of experiencing as many things as possible in Australia, we would recommend just saving up as much as possible before you come travelling.
